Ice Tea Group Converts Management and Appraisal Application to Microsoft .NET in Collaboration with Skanska IT Solutions

WASHINGTON, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Ice Tea Group, LLC (ITG) completed the migration of Skanska IT Solutions' project management and appraisal application, SPIK, from Gupta Team Developer, a development tool and technology used in the '90s, to the modern and highly compatible Microsoft .NET technology platform.

Skanska IT solutions developed and extended SPIK over the past 10 years using the now antiquated Gupta language code and report builder. To ensure the application's viability in the future, the Skanska IT team needed to upgrade SPIK's code and report templates to current standards. The SPIK team quickly identified Ice Tea Group's technology migration service, The Porting Project(TM) (http://www.iceteagroup.com/PortEN/), as the most viable approach for the fast and safe porting of their highly customized and sophisticated project management application to Microsoft .NET.

In a short time, Ice Tea Group completely regenerated the application's source code in C# and reports in the Crystal Reports format using Ice Porter(TM) -- a program specially developed by ITG to automatically regenerate legacy Gupta source code and report templates into modern standards. ITG and the SPIK team also modularized the application into individual components that can be utilized or distributed separately, enhancing SPIK's flexibility and total value.

Skanska's IT team finalized, tested and modernized the application in collaboration with ITG, creating SPIK 6. The new application is fully compatible with the modern Microsoft .NET and SqlServer 2005 technology bases and allowed Skanska IT Solutions to provide SPIK's services to over 2000 users worldwide -- double the pre-conversion figure.

"Skanska's SPIK team was able to take advantage of the new architecture very quickly and to split the project into a highly modular system early on. The whole team was also able to take full ownership of the ported application and technology in a very short time," said Gianluca Pivato of Ice Tea Group.
