iPaaS to mBaaS

Dell Boomi And Microsoft Azure

Integration Platform As A Servie(iPaaS): Integration platform as a Service (iPaaS) delivers a cloud service for application, data, process, and service-oriented architecture (SOA) integration scenarios. It is a multi-tenant platform that supports cloud-to-cloud, cloud-to-on-premises, on-premises-to-on-premises and B2B integration. It supports real-time integration and scales to meet the high-volume demands of mobile, extract, transform and load (ETL) and electronic data interchange (EDI) environments.   As enterprises  moved  towards  SaaS based solutions  for  their core needs,  and  as  evident  that  no  single  SaaS  solution  can  support  the  end to end business processes,  iPaaS  is  becoming more  and more  important  from integration point  of  view.

Mobile Backend As A Service(mBaaS): Mobile Backend as a service, also known as " backend as a service", is a model for providing  mobile app developers with a way to link their applications to backend cloud storage and APIs exposed by back end applications.  As  the  Enterprise Mobility    needs,  grows  the  concept  of  mBaaS  gained  importance  and  growing  equally if  not much  faster like iPaaS.

Convergence: While  these  concepts  started  and  gained  traction  at  slightly  different  periods,  with the  push  for  ‘Mobile First' enterprises    the  demarcation  between    iPaaS  and mBaaS  have  thinned  down  or almost  non existent.   The  following  are  some  of  the features  of  both iPaaS  and  mBaaS.

  • Authentication Services across Multiple ERP and cloud based SaaS solutions
  • Value added services like Single Sign On and Two Factor Authentication
  • Ability to CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) system of records from ERP applications like NetSuite, SAP, SalesForce
  • Cloud enabled Scalability and Availability
  • Support for Hybrid Environment
  • Support for multiple protocols and connectors to backend systems
  • Easy, Adaptable and Pluggable architecture to extend to new applications
  • Monitoring & Management Capabilities
  • Based on SOA foundation
  • ...... and more.

With   closed convergence  between    them,  it  would  make  lot  of  sense  of   Cloud  Platform  providers  like  Microsoft Azure  to   provide    the  services  of  both  iPaaS  and  mBaaS  under the single  offering  of   mBaaS.

DELL Boomi (iPaaS) And Azure Mobile Services (mBaaS): Dell Boomi has been the leader in the iPaaS  for a while.  It  is  also been  named  as  Leader in  Gartner  Magic  Quadrant   for  Enterprise Integration Platform  As A Service. With Boomi AtomSphere® you can integrate any combination of cloud, SaaS and on-premises applications. Below is a partial list of applications where the Boomi team has   integration  built in.

  • Oracle E-Business Suite
  • SAP Business Suite & NetWeaver
  • PeopleSoft
  • Workday
  • Salesforce.....

and  a  complete  list  can be viewed  from their  site.

Most  of  these  integrations  not   only  aimed  at  providing  the  basic  connectivity  but  also at  deeper integration  at  business entities  and  their  semantics.  For  example  with an integration with Oracle EBS   we  can  perform  use  cases  like:

  • Order to Won Opportunity
  • Won opportunities (CRM) to Invoice / Order to Cash
  • Customer account information from e-commerce/billing to Oracle EBS
  • Synchronize product catalog from CRM to Oracle EBS
  • Update Oracle EBS with employee data from Payroll
  • Import invoice/ payment info from financials to provide visibility to sales
  • Orders/invoices and shipment notifications to EDI

It  would  be  highly  useful  for  enterprises  if  a  tighter  integration is  achieved  between  Azure  Mobile Services  which is a  mBaaS  offering  from  Microsoft  and  DELL Boomi  which  is  a  iPaaS  offering  from  DELL.    As  the  complete  Mobile First  scenarios  of  various  enterprise  use  cases  can  be  achieved  with that combination.

Azure  already  provides  a  Biztalk  Services  but  considering the  deeper  ERP Integration  options  from DELL Boomi  Biztalk Services  can  compliment   it  with  options  like,   On Premise  Integration  ,  database integration   and other integration  scenarios  outside of what is provided  by  DELL Boomi.

Summary: Cloud  is all about   integration  and  interoperability  is  also  a  key.  Major players  like DELL and  Microsoft  are  already  close  partners  in  several  other initiatives  and  it  would  make  lot of  sense  if   a  iPaaS  like  DELL Boomi  gets  fully integrated  with a  mBaaS  like  Azure Mobile Services  and  being  called  under  the  banner of  mBaaS,  that  will indeed  strengthen  Microsoft's  ‘Mobile First  And Cloud First ‘ strategy.

Never mind that we might not know what the future holds for cryptocurrencies and how much values will fluctuate or even how the process of mining a coin could cost as much as the value of the coin itself - cryptocurrency mining is a hot industry and shows no signs of slowing down. However, energy consumption to mine cryptocurrency is one of the biggest issues facing this industry. Burning huge amounts of electricity isn't incidental to cryptocurrency, it's basically embedded in the core of "mini...
Every organization is facing their own Digital Transformation as they attempt to stay ahead of the competition, or worse, just keep up. Each new opportunity, whether embracing machine learning, IoT, or a cloud migration, seems to bring new development, deployment, and management models. The results are more diverse and federated computing models than any time in our history.

Where many organizations get into trouble, however, is that they try to have a broad and deep knowledge in each of these areas. This is a huge blow to an organization's productivity. By automating or outsourcing some of these pieces, such as databases, infrastructure, and networks, your team can instead focus on development, testing, and deployment. Further, organizations that focus their attention on these areas can eventually move to a test-driven development structure that condenses several l...
The term "digital transformation" (DX) is being used by everyone for just about any company initiative that involves technology, the web, ecommerce, software, or even customer experience. While the term has certainly turned into a buzzword with a lot of hype, the transition to a more connected, digital world is real and comes with real challenges. In his opening keynote, Four Essentials To Become DX Hero Status Now, Jonathan Hoppe, Co-Founder and CTO of Total Uptime Technologies, shared that ...
Over the course of two days, in addition to insightful conversations and presentations delving into the industry's current pressing challenges, there was considerable buzz about digital transformation and how it is enabling global enterprises to accelerate business growth. Blockchain has been a term that people hear but don't quite understand.
