Kim Bariatric Institute Celebrates Nate Newton's Four Year Weight Loss Anniversary

Kim Bariatric Institute Will Host a Live Chat Saturday, April 12th to Celebrate Former Dallas Cowboy and Three-Time Super Bowl Champion Nate Newton's Four-Year Bariatric Surgery Anniversary

DALLAS, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 04/08/14 -- As a three-time Super Bowl Champion and six-time Pro Bowl selection, most people associate Nate Newton as a legendary Dallas Cowboy player who was among one of the best guards in the NFL. What many people do not know, however, is after Newton's NFL career, he weighed close to 400 pounds and was struggling severely with obesity. In 2010, Newton underwent gastric sleeve resection, also known as vertical sleeve gastrectomy, performed by Dallas bariatric surgeon David D. Kim, MD.

Today, Newton is one of Dr. Kim's standout patients. To celebrate his four year weight loss anniversary, Kim Bariatric Institute (KBI) will be hosting a live chat with Newton on Saturday, April 12th at 11:00 am (CDT) to provide current weight loss surgery patients the opportunity to ask Newton questions, seek advice, and hear a firsthand account of what a successful weight loss journey entails.

Patients who have questions for Newton can submit them through KBI's Celebrate Nate Facebook page, or Twitter account @kimbariatric. KBI says the live chat will allow patients from all across the U.S. to participate, and also give long-time fans of Newton the chance to meet and connect with him through social media.

In a recent blog post titled, "Join Us For A Live Chat With Nate Newton!," the bariatric surgery practice stated the live chat session is also an opportunity for patients to win prizes that are helpful to their weight loss journey. A few of the prizes include:

  • Fortify Nutritionals (protein powder for weight loss)
  • A six month subscription to BariBytes (online calorie counter specifically developed for weight loss surgery patients)
  • A FitBit wireless device

As a comprehensive weight loss surgery center, Kim Bariatric Institute offers gastric sleeve resection, gastric bypass, gastric banding, duodenal switch, and revision weight loss surgery. With gastric sleeve resection (the type of procedure performed on Newton), the stomach is reduced by 75 to 80 percent, leaving a patient's new stomach in a shape resembling that of a banana.

Ultimately, KBI hopes the live chat with Newton will help build community engagement, and spread awareness of weight loss surgery.
