UIEvolution Partners with Red Bend to Update IVI Systems Over-The-Air via Smartphones

UIEvolution, Inc., the global leader in connected screen solutions, has announced a partnership with Red Bend Software, the leader in Mobile Software Management (MSM), on a proof of concept project to develop a Linux-based Driver Evolution Platform which enables In-vehicle Infotainment (IVI) Systems to be updated over-the-air (OTA) using a smartphone.

The IVI system has become central to the connected car. The IVI manages and plays audio content, delivers rear-seat entertainment, communicates incoming and outgoing SMS text messages, makes phone calls and accesses smartphone-enabled content such as traffic conditions, sports scores and weather forecasts.

UIEvolution and Red Bend will demonstrate how the IVI system can be updated wirelessly at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona, Spain. With Red Bend’s automotive software management solution, new IVI information is downloaded over wireless or Wi-Fi networks. When the smartphone is connected, it will automatically upload the updates to the car’s IVI system to provide drivers with the latest information.

“The functionality of the IVI system is so similar to that of the smartphone that drivers and passengers both expect up-to-date, personalized entertainment content. To ensure this, the automotive industry is adopting technologies proven in the mobile space. Partnering with Red Bend, a leader in managing software OTA, gives us the ability to offer our Driver Evolution Platform that will be embraced by OEMs and Tier 1s,” said Koji Hosaka, Japan president of UIEvolution, GM of Automotive Business.

“Software management and OTA updates in connected cars – from the IVI system to the head unit and ECUs – is becoming more important for the entire automotive ecosystem to cut costs, enhance safety and strengthen consumer relationships. Partnering with UIEvolution is another example of Red Bend’s commitment to leverage our automotive software management solution to help make the connected car a reality and ensure a continuously better driving experience,” said Moto Fujimura, the country manager of Red Bend Japan.

UIEvolution and Red Bend’s joint IVI wireless updating demonstration will be shown at UIEvolution’s stand in Hall App Planet 8.1, stand 8.1A11 and at Red Bend in Hall 2, stand 2M30.
