EnterpriseWeb to Speak on Solving Advanced Data Challenges at Enterprise Data World

Jason Bloomberg returns to Enterprise Data World to discuss Master Data Management and Dynamic Information in the Cloud

Were-SponsoringEnterpriseWeb Chief Evangelist, Jason Bloomberg, will be speaking at two sessions at Dataversity’s Enterprise Data World Conference in Austin, Texas, which runs from April 27 – May 1, 2014. EnterpriseWeb is also a Gold Sponsor of the conference, and will be exhibiting on the show floor.

Mr. Bloomberg’s first talk is a “Lunch-and-Learn” on April 29th. The topic of this talk is “Mixing ACID and BASE: Multiversion Concurrency Control and Late-Bound Schemas for Fun and Profit.” The description of the session is as follows:

Jason BloombergAs organizations move to the Cloud, they must deal with the challenges of eventual consistency and the horizontal scalability required for true Cloud elasticity. Enter BASE transactionality — Basic Availability, Soft State, and Eventual Consistency. This BASE context throws a wrench into traditional enterprise data management. How do we manage data in an inherently distributed, increasingly diverse business environment?

Multiversion Concurrency Control (MVCC) is part of the answer. MVCC avoids database locks in even the most distributed, elastic environments by maintaining an immutable data store. Data are never changed in the database — instead, new versions are written and old versions are marked as obsolete. Each user sees a snapshot of the database valid at the time of each read. Each write can be an ACID transaction while the entire database supports BASE.

The rest of the answer consists of late-bound schemas. Store schemaless data for maximum flexibility. Resolve data structure issues dynamically at runtime. Late bound schemas support real-time personalization and change management, while MVCC provides data immutability for trace and audit control. These are the secrets to how EnterpriseWeb revolutionizes data management for the enterprise.

Mr. Bloomberg’s second session on April 30 is titled “MDM: Master Data Management or Massive Data Mistake?” The session description is below:

“If only we had a single data model, a single view of the truth, then all our data problems would be solved…” Those words have launched many a multi-million dollar MDM effort — and yet, such efforts have proven far more difficult than predicted, leading enterprises far and wide to pour money into an illusory vision of a perfectly organized data world.

We can hardly blame the vendors for this sorry state of affairs. After all, they continue to roll out new technologies at a breakneck pace: NoSQL, NewSQL, Database-as-a-Service, you name it. But despite all this new gear, why can’t we simply settle on a single, stable, universal data model for the enterprise?

The answer: that’s not the way that business – or people – understand and use information. Every department, in fact, every interaction, has its own business context. And furthermore, the business context is inherently dynamic. Information is inherently context-sensitive and always in flux. Expecting any organization to shoehorn their information into some techie ideal of a master data model is woefully unrealistic.

It’s time for the technology to get with the program. Schemaless data stores that support metadata-driven, late-bound schemas. Real-time personalization and change management. Business entities that maintain separate, dynamic business contexts. Multiversion Concurrency Control (MVCC) and immutable data for high performance in the Cloud as well as trace and audit control and universal version control.

Instead of shoehorning data into an unrealistic technical ideal, let’s build better technology that truly supports the business.
