Robert van der Hooning, education advocate for veterans, joins innovation consultancy

Macon Raine, Inc. – a B2B marketing agency – announced today that Robert van der Hooning has been named Practice Manager for Macon Haye, a demand-side innovation consultancy

Macon Raine, Inc. announced today that Robert van der Hooning has been named Practice Manager for Macon Haye, a demand-side innovation consultancy that helps higher education, financial services and technology companies create new products and services. Macon Haye is a business unit of Macon Raine, Inc.

Mr. van der Hooning brings nearly 30 years of hands-on leadership experience in marketing, analytics and product/service design and has built two successful companies.

As Assistant Dean for the University of Illinois, Robert led the Executive MBA, Executive Education and MS Tax programs in the Chicago market where he tripled the Executive MBA class size, reengineered the curriculum and invigorated the brand. His program was ranked #14 in 2010 by Wall Street Journal (#6 by Alumni and #9 in Management Skills) ahead of Chicago Booth, Michigan and Berkeley. Mr. van der Hooning also developed and launched the University’s first international program in China and partnered with McKinsey & Company to teach its “consulting boot camp.”

As CEO of The International Bankers School, Robert built a 40,000 ft2 state-of-the-art facility featuring award-winning professors from the top 10 business schools in the world (e.g., Harvard, Stanford, Kellogg, INSEAD) focused on corporate finance and private banking/asset management.

While a Professor at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, Mr. van der Hooning founded Knowledge Stream Partners — a firm that specialized in data mining, marketing science and enterprise architecture for banks — that created value for customers and employees alike (http://www.tgc.com/dsstar/00/0411/101472.html).

His firm sponsored the international data mining competition organized by the ACM Special Interest Group on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (http://www.kdd.org/kddcup/index.php, www.kdnuggets.com). He also served as senior case writer and master trainer for the European Foundation for Quality Management (www.efqm.org) in London and later in Brussels. He pioneered the application of Six Sigma and Cycle Time Reduction to marketing and sales in service environments.

Robert leads with strategic vision, a collaborative style and a killer work ethic,” said Ben Bradley, Managing Director for Macon Raine, Inc. His experience leading hundreds of projects around the world has also given him cultural understanding, patience and a sense of fair play. “I remember watching Robert stand up for veterans facing challenges when they returned home from war (http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0417/p01s02-legn.html, http://www.blackfive.net/main/2008/04/notes-welcomes.html. He never wavered. He just gets the job done with focus and discipline.”

Mr. van der Hooning holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Michigan.

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next...
The hierarchical architecture that distributes "compute" within the network specially at the edge can enable new services by harnessing emerging technologies. But Edge-Compute comes at increased cost that needs to be managed and potentially augmented by creative architecture solutions as there will always a catching-up with the capacity demands. Processing power in smartphones has enhanced YoY and there is increasingly spare compute capacity that can be potentially pooled. Uber has successfully ...

The deluge of IoT sensor data collected from connected devices and the powerful AI required to make that data actionable are giving rise to a hybrid ecosystem in which cloud, on-prem and edge processes become interweaved. Attendees will learn how emerging composable infrastructure solutions deliver the adaptive architecture needed to manage this new data reality. Machine learning algorithms can better anticipate data storms and automate resources to support surges, including fully scalable GPU-c...
Predicting the future has never been more challenging - not because of the lack of data but because of the flood of ungoverned and risk laden information. Microsoft states that 2.5 exabytes of data are created every day. Expectations and reliance on data are being pushed to the limits, as demands around hybrid options continue to grow.
