According to IDC the overall mobile phone market in India has reached approximately 218 million units, a 16 percent year-on-year growth from CY 2011. This is mostly driven by the burgeoning smartphone market in India, which grew from close to 11 million units in CY 2011 to 16.3 million units in CY 2012, a considerable growth of about 48 percent.  Read Original Content

This week Samsung took the wraps off its highly anticipated new flagship mobile device, the Galaxy S4. As many were expecting, it has a 5-inch, full HD Super Amoled screen, 13 megapixel camera, eight-core processor and several other firsts in the smartphone segment. According to a study on the Brazilian mobile phone market released by IDC, smartphone sales grew 78 percent in 2012 compared with the previous year. A total of 16 million smartphones were sold in the country, compared with 9 million handsets in 2011.  Read Original Content

According to IDC in Q4 2012 Apple controlled 15.2 percent of India's market, putting the company in second place behind Samsung who has 38.8 percent of the market. The second place position is huge for Apple as just a quarter earlier Apple didn't even land in the top five.  Read Original Content

Samsung spent $401 million to promote its mobile devices in the U.S. during 2012, above Apple’s $333 million during the same period, according to the Wall Street Journal.  Read Original Content

According to ABI total mobile data traffic had amounted to 13,412 petabytes by the end of 2012, an increase of 69 percent year-on-year. 3G data usage occupied 46 percent of the total with an increase of 130 percent year-on-year. 4G LTE traffic is accelerating, with a growth rate of 207 percent in 2013 compared to 99 percent for 3G traffic.  Read Original Content

HTC Corp. is pushing back the rollout of its new flagship smartphone due in part to some component shortages, a setback for the Taiwanese smartphone maker which is banking on the HTC One to turn around its flagging sales.  Read Original Content

The U.S. mobile data market grew 3 percent Q/Q and 15 percent Y/Y to cross $20 billion for the first time in Q412. Data is now almost 44 percent of the U.S. mobile industry service revenues and as we had forecasted a few years back, the cross-over point of 50 percent might occur later this year.  Read Original Content
