Theale, UK (5 March 2013) ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies and services, and HoverCam, maker of a leading line of document scanner products, have announced the winners of their joint raffle at BETT, the UK's largest education technology tradeshow. The top prize winners take home a bundle of the HoverCam T5 book scanner and a copy of the ABBYY FineReader OCR software.
"We are pleased to have been among the winners as it brings to our attention how these technologies can help us offer a more complete learning experience for our students and teachers alike," commented Robert Biggs, Assistant Director of Dental Technology & Development, Birmingham Metropolitan College. "As BMETC continues its rapid expansion to become one of the largest colleges in the region, it fully understands the need to meet the ever-changing requirements of its students and address all types of learning regimes."
ABBYY text recognition software, such as FineReader and Recognition Server, provide intuitive tools for digitising documents and converting scans, photographs and PDF files into editable and searchable electronic formats. These productivity and efficiency tools are a time-saving alternative to manual retyping and help unlock content from paper and images.
Many people working in education can benefit from using ABBYY FineReader OCR software. Teachers and administrative staff use FineReader to more easily convert documents for use in making exam/study materials or for creating searchable archives of important documents. SENCOs and ICTs use FineReader to convert books and other study materials to text that can be used with assistive technologies, such as text-to-speech software, to improve the lives of students with learning and physical impairments.
"BETT is an important showcase for both evolving technologies and new solutions," says James Nelson of HoverCam United Kingdom. "We used this year's show to launch the first solution bundle from our technology partnership with ABBYY. For more than a decade ABBYY has lead the way in Optical Character Recognition software and today we have taken this guaranteed performance and combined it with our unique document camera to offer a truly portable OCR solution."
