VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/27/13 -- Strata 2013 Conference - Simba Technologies, the industry's Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) expert for Big Data solutions, announced today that it has worked with Intel, to provide ODBC access to the Intel® Distribution for Apache Hadoop(i) software. Simba's Apache Hive and HBase ODBC Drivers with SQL Connectors provide customers easy access to their data for Business Intelligence (BI) and analytics using the SQL-based application of their choice on the Intel® Distribution for Apache Hadoop software.
ODBC is the most common data interface used by BI, data analysis and reporting applications. The ODBC 3.52 specification - on which Simba's Apache Hive ODBC Driver with SQL Connector is fully compliant - is the foundation for standards-based access from BI tools such as Alteryx, Microsoft Excel, Tableau, SAP BusinessObjects Crystal Reports and countless others. ODBC was developed in 1992 by Microsoft and Simba Technologies and has been the flagship API for SQL ever since.
Unlike other drivers for Hive, Simba's Apache Hive ODBC Driver with SQL Connector performs the added task of mapping standard SQL-92 to HiveQL-thereby seamlessly integrating data residing in Hadoop with any SQL-based applications.
For your HBase data which was previously not accessible with any query language, Simba's Apache HBase ODBC Driver with SQL Connector opens up the world of enterprise-class analytic and reporting applications.
"Both Simba's Apache Hive and HBase ODBC Driver with SQL Connector are based upon the latest ODBC standard, opening up the entire ecosystem of SQL-based applications to access and analyze Big Data in Hadoop," said George Chow, Simba's CTO. "ODBC connectivity to the Intel® Distribution for Apache Hadoop software makes data accessible to enterprise users, using proven tools found in the data scientist's and business user's BI toolbox. We look forward to the success of Intel in the Hadoop world."
"Intel® Distribution for Apache Hadoop software is designed to be a broad platform for a wide range of data analysis applications. For enterprise business analysts using a variety of SQL applications, Intel® Distribution provides a powerful connectivity option powered by Simba's HBase and Hive ODBC connectors," said Girish Juneja, General Manager, Big Data Software, Intel Corporation. "With close integration of capabilities, the Intel® Distribution and Simba's connectivity innovations deliver outstanding value to our joint customers."
Built upon the SimbaEngine SDK driver development framework - the industry's leading ODBC toolkit for high-performance ODBC driver development - Simba's Apache Hive ODBC Driver with SQL Connector and Apache HBase ODBC Driver with SQL Connector complies with the latest ODBC 3.52 data standard and adds important functionality such as Unicode and 32- and 64-bit support for high-performance computing environments on all platforms.
