This increase was mainly related to the Reinsurance Operations and resulted primarily from unfavorable emergence in workers compensation and marine lines partially offset by favorable emergence in property lines.

For the twelve months ended December 31st, the expense ratio decreased from 40.8 in 2011 to 39.9 in 2012.

  • The expense ratio decreased primarily due to changes in the mix of business in the Reinsurance Operations.
