The Mobility News Weekly is an online newsletter made up of the most interesting news and articles related to enterprise mobility that I run across each week.  I am specifically targeting information that reflects market data and trends.

During the three-month average ending in December 2012 (Q4), 54 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers owned a smartphone, according to the latest figures from comScore MobiLens. That represents a 19.2 percent rise from the three-month average ending March 2012 (Q1 – 45.3 percent).  Read Original Content

According to Canalys, in the smartphone market, Android handsets accounted for 69 percent of the 216.5 million shipped. Android’s share did, however, dip sequentially from 74 percent as Apple’s share grew from 15 percent to 22 percent on the strength of the iPhone 5.  Read Original Content

According to Canalys the total mobile phone market, at 438.1 million units, was flat year-on-year, while the worldwide smart phone market grew 37 percent. Android smart phones accounted for 34 percent of all phone shipments and iOS phones 11 percent. In an interview with German magazine Wirtschafts Woche, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak noted he thinks Apple is "somewhat behind" with the features of its iPhones in comparison to the rest of the smartphone business. The latest Nielsen survey confirms one of the major smartphone trends of 2012: That the Windows Phone operating system showed remarkable strength in India.  According to Nielsen, Windows Phone grabbed eight percent of India’s smartphone market last autumn, far ahead of BlackBerry at three percent and iPhone at one percent.  Read Original Content

It looks like Microsoft and Chinese phone manufacturer Huawei are gearing up to release a new smartphone for the African market. The Huawei 4Africa phone features a four-inch screen and five mega-pixel rear camera. Microsoft also plans to bring Nokia into the game with two custom African Windows Phones from the Finnish handset maker.  Read Original Content
