Ground-breaking experimental 4G network will push the limits of application possibility
14th February 2013 Clamart, France: OneAccess Networks, a global market leader in multi-service access routers and Carrier Ethernet access devices, has completed the successful integration of its powerful UDgateway optimization solution into the ground-breaking Com4Innov project in the Sophia Antipolis area of Southern France. Com4Innov is a fully operational testbed LTE network developed to allow the exploration of mobile and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications and to establish what is possible with tomorrow's LTE-driven, 4G networks.
The Com4Innov project, which had its inauguration on Monday 11th February, is a comprehensive public-private partnership involving providers of infrastructure, local and national government agencies, research bodies, and private businesses. OneAccess - a founding member of Com4Innov - has its Business Unit Network Bandwidth Optimization office in Sophia Antipolis, which is home to many high-tech businesses and research institutions.
Bertrand de Fleurieu, Managing Director, BU Networks bandwidth Optimization at OneAccess is on the steering group for Com4Innov. Speaking about the project he said, "OneAccess is very proud to be involved in this important project to build one of the first, and certainly the most advanced LTE networks in France with the aim of exploring the upper limits of LTE technology. It is critical to ensure that network performance is sufficient to support the unhindered development of tomorrow's applications, so it is important that every element in the system is optimized. Our role has been to ensure that backhaul links offer maximum throughput for applications and we have deployed our UDgateway Wan Optimization technology to accelerate, optimize and manage the performance of each of the LTE-enabled applications.
"OneAccess is a company committed to delivering solutions which address the evolving demands of tomorrow's communications networks. Our new routers are being developed with LTE interfaces and the smooth integration of our technology with Com4Innov underlines how we are able to work with partners on highly advanced projects to deliver robust future-proof networks. We are very excited and privileged to be involved."
The Com4Innov network launched with two base stations (EnodeBs) in Sophia Antipolis using native IP radio relay connections. A further two stations are planned for Marseille and Monaco, with Marseille connected to Comm4Innov via a fibre leased line. After launch, Com4Innov will remain dedicated to research.
