Rocket Software, Inc. (www.rocketsoftware.com) today announced the general availability of Rocket U2 Toolkit for .NET v1.2 (U2NETDK), which delivers comprehensive Microsoft .NET interfaces for the UniVerse and UniData data servers. Now .NET programmers can leverage the robust Microsoft .NET Framework and CLR with the powerful U2 databases.
“This release of U2NETDK showcases Rocket's commitment to bring the power and flexibility of the U2 databases to the .NET world,” says Dan McGrath, Managing Director of the U2 Servers Lab for Rocket Software. “With Visual Studio Add-ins, EDM Designer, ADO.NET functionality, EDM Designer, DataSet Designer and SSIS/SSRS support, this will become the 'go-to' package for the serious .NET developer.”
U2NETDK is already helping organizations achieve higher levels of integration. David Jordan, Managing Director of U2 partner Solutions4Strategy, says, “Our team has always considered U2 Basic to be a highly sophisticated stored procedure language, and we are excited to see that .NET can now take full advantage of this powerful feature. It is saving us development time using the U2 Toolkit where we can load dynamic arrays straight from a subroutine into multiple tables with one call, a feature not possible with other databases. U2 Basic subroutines can now be used as methods in the dataset designer and entity model. We have also been impressed at how seamless the integration between U2 and .NET is in this release.”
U2 Toolkit for .NET encompasses three complementary tools in one kit: UniObjects for .NET, U2NETDK ADO.NET Provider, and U2 Database Add-Ins for Visual Studio. UniObjects for .NET (UO.NET) is an interface used to build consoles, Windows, or AS.NET Web applications, as well as SML Web services or smart client applications, using any of the .NET CLR languages. U2NETDK ADO.NET Provider enables users' .NET applications to connect to the U2 databases, execute the commands of the application, and deliver result sets and datasets to the applications. The U2 Database Add-Ins for Visual Studio are a collection of features that integrate seamlessly into users' Visual Studio development environments so that they can work with U2 objects such as tables, views, and subroutines. It also provides support for Microsoft’s Entity Data Model (EDM).
