QuickPlay Media, the leading provider of cloud-based managed service solutions for the distribution of premium media to IP-connected devices, today announced support for the new BlackBerry® 10 platform. A number of multichannel video program distributors (MVPDs) , including Canada’s largest cable and IPTV operator, are using QuickPlay’s OpenVideo Platform to roll out live TV and video-on-demand (VOD) services for BlackBerry 10 smartphones.
QuickPlay’s OpenVideo Platform is a private cloud-based offering that helps MVPDs manage all stages of media content transformation – from ingestion and DRM packaging to delivery – for both live and on demand programming across more than 300 different mobile device profiles. The company has expanded its ecosystem with the addition of support for the new BlackBerry 10 platform and an implementation of adaptive streaming of premium mobile video for BlackBerry 10 smartphone to use the Microsoft PlayReady DRM solution. By combining the most popular form of adaptive streaming (HTTP Live Streaming) and carrier grade DRM technology for the new BlackBerry platform, QuickPlay is able to provide customers with a highly secure and positive user experience. MVPDs looking to quickly and cost effectively roll out VOD and Live TV services to subscribers using any BlackBerry 10 smartphone or other mobile device can do so by leveraging QuickPlay’s managed services offerings.
Kavi Maharajh, QuickPlay’s vice president of product and research and development, said, “By rolling out support for BlackBerry 10 on launch day, we’re able to reduce the barrier of entry for MVPDs and other Pay TV service providers looking to reach subscribers who purchase and use the new smartphones. We’re excited to further expand the ecosystem of operating systems and devices QuickPlay supports and make it a seamless process for our customers to extend new services and devices to their subscriber bases.”
Martyn Mallick, vice president, global alliances and business development at RIM, said, “With BlackBerry 10, we’ve re-designed and re-engineered the BlackBerry platform to support the kind of compelling, high quality mobile video services that QuickPlay offers, and that customers want.”
