- After bumpy start, VA says paperless claims transition will be smooth - The VA transition to paperless claims processing has gotten off to a rocky start. However, the VA just released the information that they will be transitioning this program nationwide. The Veterans Benefits Management System (VBMS) will be rolled out to every office in the nation, covering 14,000 claims examiners. Via FierceGovernmentIT, more here.
- Cyber spy that targets governments is uncovered - A long-running Cyber espionage malware campaign aimed at governments in Eastern Europe, Russia, and central Asia has infiltrated computer systems, mobile devices and network equipment in the regions, according to cyber security provider Kaspersky. - Labor makes online tools mobile-friendly - The Department of Labor has made available some of their most popular services in mobile-optimized form. Some 50% of the US population does the vast majority of their browsing via mobile, and this is a great way to get DoL services out to those who need them. Via FedScoop, more here.
- Microsoft vows to improve security suite after failed evaluation - MSFT’s Security Essentials and Forefront Endpoint Protection failed to be certified in recent testing by AV-Test. The Microsoft software detected only 72 pieces of malware out of a sample of 100 pieces of zero-day malware. It also failed in detecting around 9% of the sample of recent malware. - Rand: American involvement in a cyber crisis is inevitable but manageable - According to a recent Rand Corporation monograph, the US will likely find itself in a cyber crisis. This is due to the increase in cybercrimes and espionage. Via FierceGovernmentIT, more here.
- Cloud security key to BYOD, (ISC)2 study shows - While businesses are welcoming BYOD movements (because they save them money on networks and devices) they are still concerned about data security and more.
