Nuix, a worldwide provider of investigative and information management technologies, is pleased to announce that the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has selected Nuix to supply server-based and mobile investigations software. TSA chose Nuix for its ability to index, interrogate and export a large volume and wide range of unstructured data sources, allowing for rapid analysis during investigations and eDiscovery operations.
The Focused Operations Branch, part of the Information Assurance & Cyber Security Division, collects and analyzes digital evidence for TSA offices, including the Office of Inspections, Federal Air Marshals and Chief Counsel. Evidence collections range from a single device to multiple terabytes of server data, and often take place on site for time-sensitive investigations.
TSA’s requirements for big data investigations and discovery software included the ability to process more than 1.5TB per day on a single server and 500GB per day on a mobile workstation. The selected technology also needed to support searching and analyzing Microsoft SharePoint data, network file shares and all common forensic image formats including dd, EnCase E01 and L01 and Access Data AD1.
“Federal, state and local agencies are clearly facing big data challenges – they have a huge backlog of time-sensitive cases and need a scalable technology that works fast enough to help them catch up,” said Peter Morse, U.S. Public Sector Director at Nuix.
“Nuix is proud to support the TSA in protecting the traveling public in the United States.”
TSA joins a growing list of government agencies that rely on Nuix for investigating and cross-referencing multiple terabytes of digital evidence, including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Internal Revenue Service, Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission and Department of State.
About the Transportation Security Administration
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created in the wake of 9/11 to strengthen the security of the nation’s transportation systems while ensuring the freedom of movement for people and commerce. It employs a risk-based strategy to secure U.S. transportation systems, and works closely with stakeholders in aviation, rail, transit, highway and pipeline sectors, as well as the partners in the law enforcement and intelligence communities.
