IRWINDALE, Calif., Jan. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Year-after-year the most common New Year's resolutions revolve around losing weight, eating right, and forming healthier habits. Yet the stresses of everyday life, from lack of time to work pressures to the temptations of long-ingrained bad habits, often contribute to those resolutions falling by the wayside nearly as soon as the year has begun. Learning better habits and finding simple ways to heed grandma's sage advice to always eat your vegetables may make it easier to keep those New Year's resolutions.

"One of the simplest ways to avoid falling back on unhealthy eating habits is to have a safety net of available healthy meals and snacks that you can grab when temptation strikes," said Tristan Simpson, Ready Pac Foods, Inc. director of marketing and corporate communications. "I recommend planning for 'healthy convenience' by stocking your refrigerator with a variety of pre-washed, pre-cut produce plus sources of lean protein so you can whip up a healthy meal or grab a satisfying light snack whenever hunger strikes."
The American Heart Association recommends that as part of a healthy diet, an adult consuming 2,000 calories daily should aim for at least 4.5 cups a day of fruits and vegetables. Simpson recommends starting the day with a Ready Pac fresh fruit parfait and sneaking veggies into almost any dish you can think of. "You could make scrambled eggs for breakfast, and easily throw in some sliced mushrooms and fresh-cut spinach to deliciously increase your intake of vegetables," said Simpson.
One of Simpson's top tips for those with access to refrigerators at work is to bring several healthy lunches in at the start of a work week. Then, on days when everyone is rushing to meet deadlines or facing other stresses, you have a lunch solution at the ready to keep you on your healthy eating plan. Ready Pac Bistro® Bowl Salads are available in 12 varieties, and each has fewer than 300 calories. Complete with dressings and proteins such as chicken and cheese, the bowl salads provide a satisfying lunch, and with a fork included they have everything needed for a meal on-the-run.
Keeping a stock of cut fruit and veggie snacks at work and at home can help you resist the temptation to reach for sugar-laden baked goods and candy. Simpson also recommends getting into the habit of planning a salad or stir fry dinner meal at least once a week to use up fresh-cut produce before its expiration date, then reviewing your shopping needs to maintain a steady supply of fresh, healthy convenience.
