Here are the top cyber news and stories of the day.
- Navy gears up for CANES deployment - CANES is the set of technology that will provide Navy ships with the services they need to be a part of networks. The minimum number of ships the CANES program will reach is 192 over 5 years. They will also include maritime operations centers. - Cybersecurity Provisions Enacted under 2013 National Defense Authorization Act – On January 2, 2013, President Obama signed the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act for 2013 (NDAA) into law. Each year Congress passes the NDAA to authorize funding levels for Department of Defense (DoD) programs and operations and for national security programs in the Department of Energy. In the wake of the failure to enact comprehensive cybersecurity legislation, Congress included several targeted statutory provisions setting federal defense policy on a range of cybersecurity issues. - GSA agrees to federal-friendly terms with Pinterest - The GSA has agreed with Pinterest to allow federal agencies to engage with the public via social media. There are federal-compatible clauses which were added to eliminate some problems. Via FedScoop, more here.
- US military increases security in cyber supply chain - securing the cyber supply chain has long been a concern of many cyber security researchers. Now, software used by contractors will be subject to more stringent requirements. Via The Strategic Sourceror, more here.
- Adobe Patches Acrobat, Reader and Flash Flaws - As Adobe has joined Microsoft on Patch Tuesday, they are rolling out some critical patches to users. Via ThreatPost, more here.
- Commerce’s CFO, CIO collaboration paying off across the board - The DoC has saved more than $200M in admin costs over the past two years due to how the CFO and CIO are collaborating.
