HealthSpot™ Launches Telehealth System at CES

Merging technology with patient care, HealthSpot™ Station is a walk-in kiosk that will be located in everyday locations like pharmacies and grocery stores for patient diagnosis and medical treatment

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CES Booth Grand Lobby-3 -- HealthSpot, a pioneer in patient and provider driven healthcare technology, has developed a cutting-edge telehealth system that provides high-quality medical diagnostic technology to patients anytime, anywhere. Throughout the 2013 International CES, HealthSpot will give attendees a first look at the HealthSpot™ Station, a private, walk-in kiosk that provides patients access to diagnosis and treatment by board-certified doctors, via high-definition videoconferencing and interactive digital medical devices.

"HealthSpot has built a solution that merges technology with convenience in patient care. Our innovation utilizes today's technology combined with modern medicine to diagnose and treat patients in ways that are affordable, convenient and effective," said HealthSpot CEO and founder Steve Cashman. "With deployment coming in 2013, patients will easily be able to locate their closest HealthSpot Station for quick diagnosis and care, before their ailment becomes worse."

The HealthSpot™ Station is an 8-foot by 5-foot, ADA accessible, fully enclosed kiosk furnished with a rolling chair, a desktop with a touch screen, audio system, and a two-way high-definition video screen. The HealthSpot Station provides a true-to-life audio and video solution that brings patients a face-to-face experience with a board-certified doctor who is miles away. Each station is supported by an accredited medical assistant who can help the patient as needed.

Inside the HealthSpot Station, a scale built into the floor records weight. With the push of a button, the doctor can unlock small cabinets that hold high-tech, digital medical devices that transmit information, audio video and pictures back to them through a secured connectivity FDA Medical Device Data System. A removable cuff captures blood pressure. An instant-read thermometer is behind one door. A dermascope provides a magnified view of rashes and skin conditions, as well as the back of your throat or eye. If you have an earache, the doctor asks you to slip the otoscope into your ear as you both look at a high-resolution image of the inside of your ear on the screen in front of you. The stethoscope transmits heart, lung and bowel sounds digitally. The pulse oximeter is used to take the patient's pulse and monitor oxygen saturation of the blood.

The doctor is easily able to review medical information with the patient, discuss symptoms, diagnose and treat, and recommend follow-up care as appropriate. The doctor can capture, save and even annotate the images with notes and share with the patient's primary care physician, specialist, or for the patient's own records. The HealthSpot Station, which complies with the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) privacy and security requirements, will automatically create a complete electronic medical record of each visit, supporting continuity of care and collaboration among the healthcare providers.

Targeted locations include retail sites such as grocery stores; hospital systems such as urgent care facilities, emergency rooms, doctor's offices, specialist offices (dermatology, ENT [ear, nose, throat]); large businesses; rural areas; as well as military locations, college campuses, nursing homes, and more.

With pilots currently in place in Ohio, HealthSpot Stations will begin rolling out in select locations in Q1 2013.

You think you know what’s in your data. But do you? Most organizations are now aware of the business intelligence represented by their data. Data science stands to take this to a level you never thought of – literally. The techniques of data science, when used with the capabilities of Big Data technologies, can make connections you had not yet imagined, helping you discover new insights and ask new questions of your data. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Sarbjit Sarkaria, data science team lead ...
WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was. You might have played with the technology a couple of years ago, only to find the extra infrastructure requirements were painful to implement and poorly documented. This probably left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when things went wrong.
WebRTC is bringing significant change to the communications landscape that will bridge the worlds of web and telephony, making the Internet the new standard for communications. Cloud9 took the road less traveled and used WebRTC to create a downloadable enterprise-grade communications platform that is changing the communication dynamic in the financial sector. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Leo Papadopoulos, CTO of Cloud9, discussed the importance of WebRTC and how it enables companies to focus o...
A critical component of any IoT project is what to do with all the data being generated. This data needs to be captured, processed, structured, and stored in a way to facilitate different kinds of queries. Traditional data warehouse and analytical systems are mature technologies that can be used to handle certain kinds of queries, but they are not always well suited to many problems, particularly when there is a need for real-time insights.
Providing secure, mobile access to sensitive data sets is a critical element in realizing the full potential of cloud computing. However, large data caches remain inaccessible to edge devices for reasons of security, size, format or limited viewing capabilities. Medical imaging, computer aided design and seismic interpretation are just a few examples of industries facing this challenge. Rather than fighting for incremental gains by pulling these datasets to edge devices, we need to embrace the i...
Web Real-Time Communication APIs have quickly revolutionized what browsers are capable of. In addition to video and audio streams, we can now bi-directionally send arbitrary data over WebRTC's PeerConnection Data Channels. With the advent of Progressive Web Apps and new hardware APIs such as WebBluetooh and WebUSB, we can finally enable users to stitch together the Internet of Things directly from their browsers while communicating privately and securely in a decentralized way.
