Gravy, the mood-based what’s going on app, today announced that it has received additional funding, bringing the total capital raised to $6.4 million. New financing includes participation from Gravy’s existing lead investor Piedmont Investment Advisors, whose portfolio also includes Social Toaster, Fortify.vc and SocialTables, among other technology companies. Gravy served over 20 million event discoveries nationwide last month via its fast-growing mobile app, bringing the total since launch to over 100 million.
“Gravy has demonstrated an amazing trajectory since launch,” said Bill Militello, Founder of Piedmont Investment Advisors. “Very few companies have the ability to develop disruptive technology, gain user momentum and attract top tier brand partnerships in the time Gravy has achieved these feats. We’re excited to continue the journey with Gravy’s world-class team.”
Gravy, formerly timeRAZOR, will use the funds to accelerate growth with the development of key product features and technology enhancements. This includes expanding to meet the needs of the brands leveraging Gravy to amplify their event-driven experiential marketing campaigns. Current brand partners include L’Oreal, Universal Pictures, GAP, Eddie Bauer, Motley Crue, AEG, Eleven Seven Music, CBRE and more.
The app’s latest version answers the age-old question of, “What are you in the mood to do?” With the swipe of a finger, users select what type of mood they are in. Choices include “Playtime” events like nature hikes or children’s entertainment; “Classy” events such as museum openings and theatre and “Lively” events such as live music and happy hours.
“Gravy is all the good stuff going on near and around you that, more often than not, you don’t know about or is hard to find,” said Jeff White, Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Gravy. “Our mission is to make it easier to discover what’s going on around you everyday. Whether it’s looking for something to do that fits your mood or staying alerted to certain types of activities you don’t want to miss – we make it happen.”
To deliver on their mission, Gravy has set up special “channels” featuring curated groupings of events that users can easily access through the app. Their “Free & Discounted Activities” channel is one of their most popular channels where users can easily see free and inexpensive things to do near where they live, work and play. There are also seasonal channels, like the “Tis the Season” channel highlighting great holiday events (e.g. tree lightings, Santa brunches, and snow bar crawls) and the “Get & Stay Fit in 2013” channel that shows users local fitness and active events to help people keep their resolutions.
The app is available for free on both iOS and Android.
