Kcom: Saving Asda money every day

New managed service helps Asda to help customers save money every day

12 December 2012 Kcom, part of the KCOM Group, is helping Asda to make significant savings on its telephony.

The service is fully managed by Kcom and reduces call costs by connecting calls over a private IP based network rather than the public services telephone network (PSTN). Kcom is linking all Asda's key sites in Leeds, Leicester and Wakefield and, as there are dual connections from each site, there is built-in resilience to make sure the retailer's day to day business operations can be maintained in the event of a fault.

Using the new technology, Asda has also been able to progress with the centralisation of all its switchboards and expansion of its contact centre.

About SIP Trunking
SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) Trunking gives organisations the flexibility to transition from distributed voice network architectures to a more centralised and cost efficient VoIP-based solution. It offers the opportunity to reduce lines, often by 40-60%, to save money, simplify the network and enhance business continuity. SIP Trunking also enables organisations to move closer to next generation converged communications services.

The solution connects existing PBX telephone equipment to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) directly over an IP-based data link such as an IP-VPN or Ethernet. Dynamic failover provides additional business continuity by automatically re-routing calls in the event the normal telephone destination cannot be reached. It also offers customers a future roadmap to additional multimedia services such as presence, IM, web conferencing and video.
