CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/03/12 -- Starting December 1, the Calgary Parking Authority is offering veterans a complimentary parking credit for up to $10 per month for on-street parking.
"This new program is easily integrated into our parking system. Because ParkPlus is license plate based, we can quickly and easily provide parking credits to individuals with veterans' license plates," said Troy McLeod, CPA General Manager.
On Nov. 5, 2012, City Council passed a recommendation to pilot a special parking program for veterans.
To participate in the parking program, veterans must have a ParkPlus cell phone account that contains their veterans' license plate and they must notify the CPA that they would like to enroll in the program. Once they are enrolled, they will automatically receive $10 of parking credits each month for each veteran's license plate in their account. Monthly credits are not refundable or cumulative from year to year.
To sign up for a ParkPlus cell phone account, veterans may go online to www.parkplus.ca, call a ParkPlus representative at 403-537-7275 or visit the Calgary Parking Authority office weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Veterans who do not have a cell phone but would like to participate in the program are asked to contact the Calgary Parking Authority by phone at 403-537-7000 or email at parkplusadmin@calgaryparking.com.
To notify veterans about this program, the CPA is sending emails to ParkPlus cell phone account holders with veteran's license plates, posting information on its website and distributing a program brochure to all Calgary registry offices and legions. The brochure will also be sent to the offices of the Corps of Commissionaires and Mewata Armoury.
Each year the Calgary Parking Authority provides veterans with complimentary parking on Remembrance Day at any CPA parkade or surface parking lot. In addition, veterans are provided with free parking in Lot 59 (200 Memorial Drive NW) from October 15 to November 15, so they can visit the white crosses that are erected to honour the thousands of Canadian military personnel who have lost their lives in conflicts around the globe.
About Us
The Calgary Parking Authority fulfills the City of Calgary's parking mandates and implements the municipality's parking policies by managing on and off-street public parking facilities, enforcement programs and by providing parking advisory services. Each year the CPA contributes a portion of its net revenue to the City. In 2011, CPA contributed $19.5M in revenue and $7.5M in municipal taxes to the City. In addition, the CPA spends $1M administering the residential parking permit program at no cost to taxpayers and operates parking enforcement services and the municipal impound lot on a break-even basis. The CPA operates without using any municipal tax revenues.
