A month after releasing its Surface tablet with Windows RT, Microsoft has unveiled the pricing and specs for its more powerful tablet: the Surface with Windows Pro. Available in January, Microsoft’s higher-end tablet will feature Intel Core i5 processors, 4 gigs of RAM, a full 1080p 10.6” screen, a full-size USB 3.0 port, a pen input with Palm Block technology and a Mini DisplayPort for external displays. Aside from the extra juice, the most important difference between the existing Surface and this version is the ability to run existing Windows 7 desktop applications, in addition to the apps in the Microsoft Store. The new Surface is pricey, though, with the 64 gig model being listed at $899 and the 128 gig model at $999, with the almost-essential keyboard still an add-on purchase. This tablet sounds awesome, but it’s the same cost as a MacBook Air and other Ultrabooks. Will consumers want this version more than the currently-flopping Surface with Windows RT? Only time will tell.
