"Windows Vista" Beta 1 Will Will Be Available by August 3, Says Microsoft

Beta 1, Targeted at Developers and IT Professionals, Just 11 Days Away

It "enables a new level of confidence in your PC and in your ability to get the most out of it." What is the "it"? Why, Windows Vista, what else - yesterday's long-awaited announcement that "Longhorn" now has a brand name has now been followed up by Microsoft with the opening of their first Windows Vista web site, at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista. The words are taken from there.

Beta 1 of Windows Vista, targeted at developers and IT professionals, will be available by August 3rd 2005, says the site, which otherwise contains scant detail save for the following three sentences:

Introducing Windows Vista™

It enables a new level of confidence in your PC and in your ability to get the most out of it.

It introduces clear ways to organize and use information the way you want to use it.

It seamlessly connects you to information, people, and devices that help you get the most out of life.

Will it come to UK at the same time as the USA, the Beta 1 I mean?

queZZtion 07/23/05 05:43:19 AM EDT

Will it be a dowload available to all, or will they restrict it to "just" 100,000 or so like they've done before?

The site is just the beginning. This is going to be THE biggest launch that anyone has ever seen. After "2000" and then "XP" it is refreshing to get away from numbers and initials and actually have a word associated with Microsoft again. They didn't do so badly with the word "Windows" after all! ;-)
